Soups – Ham and Split Pea Soup

There are lots of means of getting ready this soup and you can use break up green peas or yellow types, depending which you like, or which you have in your retail outlet cabinet. Substances

750 gr of ham hock or knuckle, washed and rinsed

500 gr eco-friendly split peas, cleaned to eliminate any filth or grit

1 large onion, chopped

2 celery stalks, trimmed and halved

4 medium carrots, cleaned and thinly sliced

4 cloves of garlic, halved

2 massive sprigs of thyme or 1 tsp dried thyme

8 sprigs of parsley either curly or flat-leaved

2 bay leaves, torn but however intact

10 black peppercorns

salt to style

freshly floor black pepper to taste

4-6 allspice berries (optional)

sprigs of parsley to decorate each individual bowl if ideal

Strategy

Set the ham hock or knuckle and peas in a big pan and go over with 2½ liters of water A and provide to the boil. Remove any scum which comes to the floor.

You can possibly fry the onion, garlic, and carrots gently in olive oil, or only increase them to the pan soon after the scum has been taken off along with the herbs and spices.

Partly deal with the pan and cook, simmering, for an hour and a half.

Check that the peas are cooked and if needed prepare dinner for half and hour more with the lid on firmly.

Reheat the soup and serve in heat bowls and enhance with parsley sprigs if working with.
